historiographer; upon whom the Duke Carlos Emanuel, of Savoy,

conferred the same office; and in praise of whom the Duchess

Christina, daughter to his most Christian majesty, Henry IV.,

added in a diploma, after many other titles, "the renown he had

obtained in Italy as the first writer of the age."
