Sayfa 754 / 1118

Lucy and her mother entertained a lively friendship for their

kind hosts, which was warmly reciprocated; and between whom can

friendship exist more in its purity, than between the benefactor

and the recipients of the benefit, when both have kind hearts!

Agnes, especially, had long gossips with the mistress of the

house, and the tailor afforded them much amusement by his tales

and moral discourses; at dinner particularly he had always

something to relate of the sword of Roland, or of the Fathers of

the Thebaid.
