must have what belongs to me, sir. I will render an account of my

actions, but I must have what belongs to me."

And now make haste," said the notary, drawing from his bosom the

sequestered goods, and consigning them, with something like a

sigh, to Renzo, who muttered between his teeth, as he put them in

his pocket, "You have so much to do with thieves, that you have

learned the trade!"
